When Your Kids Don’t Eat Vegetables

When your kids don't eat vegetables, I get some fierce mixed emotions. I've heard moms at my kids' school saying things like, "I wish my kids would snack on carrot sticks like yours do, but I can't get my kids to eat vegetables at all." I think that these moms must be exaggerating. How can your kid be six and not eat any vegetables? I mean, in general, I thought that eating vegetables was a requirement for all of us living human beings.

Summer Vacation Coming to an End

So it's February and we're in Argentina. That means summer vacation is here, but coming to a close. In three weeks, my kids will be starting first grade and that's brought up some mixed emotions for me. I'm not sad that my kids will be starting first grade. I'm not sad that they'll be going to school all day and that I can go back to work. My house won't be sad. My house will be clean and clutter free again. We'll get into the rhythm of school and that's going to be wonderful.

Eccentric kids

Today we were riding the bus to their new school.  Soon we’re going  to be moving to a new neighborhood but the boys have already started the commute to their new school.  It would cost an arm and a leg to take a hired car every morning to school and back so we’ve taken to public transportation when we can’t catch a ride with Daddy or Grandma.

Potty Training Twins

It was a few months coming.   I read up on all of my favorite blogs and baby websites about “when is the right time to toilet train your child”.   I talked to other mothers.  I talked to our pediatrician.  I talked to the head of the pre-school.  I listened to my children – I *REALLY* listened.  I didn’t want to start too early and fail or cause psychological […]

We Started Pre-School!

When we got back from Chicago, we decided that the boys would benefit from a little time outside of the house everyday. So we searched and searched through Villa Crespo to see if we could find a pre-school that was affordable and appropriate for the boys. It was kind of hard since they would be coming in towards the end of the year, in September. Here in Argentina, the school year starts in March and ends in December.

Toddler Masterchef

We have a running joke in our house. That started with my seasonal obsession with Master Chef Australia. Whenever we try new recipes or cooking techniques we always proclaim ourselves the master chef and humbly allow ourselves to be judged (lovingly) by others. We give points for creativity and sometimes we lose but mostly, we win. This morning I made oatmeal for the boys and since it was a bit […]

Terrible Two Party

Well, we’re in Chicago. Javi, the boys and I had a great time our first week of vacation. We went to Vermont and spent lots of time with family, nature and the quaint villages of New England. But we knew that we were going to come home and have to set up a mini event for our darling little guys celebrating their second birthday. On their actual birthday, we had […]

Two Months and Two Hundred Things

Almost two months have passed since I have been able to write here. TWO MONTHS! I turned 37 almost two weeks ago. (yah!) I had a lovely time. My friends joined me for some bowling on the eve of my birthday, which was really special. We had a great time. Then my birthday fell on Mother’s Day. It was going to be an extra special birthday and Mother’s Day, but […]

Three Bowls of Ice Cream

Yesterday, we took our kids to a family friendly birthday party.  My husband’s friend invited us to his house for an asado (Argentine Barbecue) and dinner was to start around 8pm, so that all of our children could eat and enjoy time together before having to go to bed. That was really lovely and thoughtful.  We had organic beef and honestly, it was grilled to perfection.  It was tender and […]

How to Survive a Vacation with Twin Toddlers

When the boys had just turned one, we took a trip with the kids and my parents to a neighboring seaside city called Mar del Plata.  It was nice, and refreshing to be in the breezy, salty air and quite easy to move around the kids in the stroller or in the car.  Plus, we had my parents as backup hands if assistance was needed. The boys were just learning […]

Outsmarted by the Twins

My husband, Javier, celebrated his birthday yesterday.  He had been asking me to make him cupcakes, literally since the boys first birthday in June, so I decided to oblige him and bake him enough cupcakes to keep him “cupcake-satisfied” at least until our children’s second birthday. On Sunday, I started out in the morning by preparing the dough for some brioche. (I didn’t bake until later in the afternoon, because […]

Terrible Twwwwenty Months

the boys gave me a run for my money yesterday… they’re prematurely starting the terrible twos i think. 🙁 tony has decided that he likes to wear his leash indoors, but not outdoors and he doesn’t want to walk. anywhere. period. he will throw himself on the ground as soon as we leave the house. and if i pick him up, it’s contagious. bruno wants it too. and they’ve discovered […]
