Breakfast of Champions

The boys start their days out around 8:30 – 9am every day. After their 12 hour sleep, I like to start their days out right, especially in the cooler winter months like now.  Nothing keeps us going and warm like one of their favorite meals, Oatmeal. Since there is no instant oatmeal here, I use oats, and I feel good cause it’s my way of hugging my kids from the inside out.

1 cup milk (any kind of milk; skim, whole, almond, soy, whatever)
1/2 cup of oats
1 tsp cinnamon

optional fruits (choose one or any combination of the following fruits in appropriate quantities):
1/2 apple, diced
1 handfull raisins
1 banana, diced
1/2 peach, diced

optional topping:
1 tsp honey
1 tsp maple syrup
1 tsp brown sugar

In a small saucepan, bring the milk to a boil. Lower heat, add the oats and let simmer for about 4 minutes, adding the fruits if you wish in the last minute of cooking. Transfer to a bowl and sprinkle on cinnamon. This is where I stop for my one year old twins. However, when making it for myself, I indulge in a little honey as a sweetener.  and YUM! a great way to start the day.

    • ohhh I didn’t know that! It’s better that way – now I do things the old fashioned way!! 🙂 and with chocolate? *drool* chocolate literally goes with EVERYTHING, doesn’t it?? that’s genius, I love it!
