30 days of Christmas Inspiration – Day 5

It’s day 5 and with just a few minutes to spare! Today the boys played hard with grandma in the morning so that I could do some organizing in the boys bedroom.  And now we are OFFICIALLY out of cribs and into actual beds. Beds on the floor, nonetheless, but beds!

I actually must say, I got this idea from a blog called, “Montessori on the Double“.  The blogger, Stephanie, advocates letting your child(ren) sleep from a very early age in their own beds on the floor. I really like her philosophy in general. She is a mother of twin girls a little older than my little guys and I get to read what she did in the past with her twins – activities, exercises for their little minds.. plus, I went to Montessori schooling when I was young and that worked out really well for me.

So we finally prepared their room – beds on the floor, a play area on one side of the room and lots of extra padding against the walls, but it seemed to work out well! Before, we were putting them in their cribs and they would cry for 5 minutes, play for a half an hour and then go to sleep by themselves. This time, we put them in their room with the beds, they cried for like 5 whole seconds after I left and then played for an hour before going to sleep. Oh they’re good sleepers anyway. We’ve gotten to a point where we know they don’t need us to fall asleep – and in fact, they like their independence. It’s bittersweet. I know that my little guys aren’t as clingy as other kids, but at the same time I get my fair share of hugs and snuggles and I’m raising confident, independent young men.  As a mother that’s all I can ask for, right? I can hope that with my guidance they’ll grow up to be respectful men… oh my gentle boys.

On another note, I have quite a few friends who would love these as gifts! Wouldn’t these be great as a gift for your host(ess) at your holiday party??

I’ll be waiting. You can get them HERE. The designers, Little Retreats, have all sorts of different combinations but I just love the “Party on a Stick” idea. It’s not just for the holidays you know? I saw this used at a friend’s wedding in the style of a photobooth.  So sooo cute!

So, what do you think?
